COFFEE TALK TUESDAY | Have you met me yet?
I told myself at the beginning of the year I was going to really work on the whole blogging thing. Here we are, June, and here I am! Better late than never, right?? :)
I thought I would start off this Tuesday's Coffee Talk with a simple question...
Have you met me yet?
Every day I see new followers, new people liking and commenting on my posts, and I always think... "HEY! I'm so so excited you're here!!!" But I don't want to be THAT person that creeps everyone out when I see someone new. Ha! So, here is my elevator speech.
My name is Amber, and I was born in raised in central Illinois with a passion ingrained in me to tell a story. I love coffee, Netflix and napping on weekend afternoons. Most Sundays I can be found at church volunteering my time on the creative team and singing praise to God above! I've been married to my husband for nearly 10 years and together we have a 4 1/2 year old son who challenges everything we know and blesses us more than we could have ever expected. I try to focus on the positives in life, and while sometimes I flounder, I can find beauty in the light and in the dark.
I posted on my personal Facebook page to see what 10 random nuggets of information people had for me, and I might answer them on here! So... did your question make it? Let's find out!
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Well, I've always loved photography... and telling a story. I can remember being five years old on our family computer (MS Dos what what!) and writing story after story. When I picked up a camera for the first time (I think I was about seven), it felt normal... like an extension of myself that I didn't know was a part of me yet. And truthfully, I wouldn't understand that it was to be part of my life plan until more than 20 years later!
HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR HUSBAND?
Well, the first time or the second time? :) So, the "first" time we met was at college -- we both went to Southern IL University Carbondale. Our roommates were friends, and we met through hanging out with them. At the time I met Craig (ah, a name!), I was in a long term relationship with my high school boyfriend, so other than a physical attraction, my focus was not, "OH! I'm going to marry him someday!" Weeks went by, we learned more about each other. We found out we grew up and lived 20 minutes away from each other and that we briefly attended the same community college (I am a year younger than him, so I was only there for a course for college credit!) We found out we were in the same extracurricular group and even went on a trip to STL together! Funny how God works, eh? Needless to say, things ended with my boyfriend and in lieu of that, Craig and I started dating in December 2004... the rest is history!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
I love a lot of colors... my favorite is pink. If I had a close second and third, it would be black and gray.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST REGRET?
I don't really have a lot of regrets because I believe I am where I am today because of the decisions -- good and bad -- that I made. However, for the sake of the post... I would have to say that not answering the phone the last time my Uncle Dale called me. I remember driving home from work and saw he was calling, and I just didn't answer it because I didn't feel like it. It was around the holidays, and he left me a funny voice mail. I never even called him back. Still hurts to this day, and it's been 8 1/2 years since he left this Earth.
WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?
Graduating from college. I was the first person on my mom's side of the family to go to a four year university and graduate on time, and being that person for my family was really, really awesome!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO RELAX?
Sitting comfortably in my bed, in my PJs, in a dark room with a glass of ice water watching Netflix. And not just watching, but binge watching a TV show. On a regular basis I binge watch a rotation of Friends, The Office, Gilmore Girls & Parks and Recreation... so I would definitely revisit them!
WHAT GIVES YOU THE MOST JOY IN LIFE?
While I have a lot of things I could answer... the first thing that came to mind was being behind my camera. I love more than anything being a mom and being a wife, but when I have my camera in my hand, my world transforms. I feel so incredibly powerful behind that lens, because I'm not only responsible for taking someone's picture, but I'm creating tangible memories for generations to come. I'm building a legacy for a family. I'm stopping time, if but only for a brief moment. I'm seeing what others may not be able to see. My heart explodes with joy everytime I talk about a session, or show off a gallery. It is my heart's work, and thanks to God's blessing me with the skill... my life is full of joy!
DO YOU HAVE ANY NICKNAMES?
Anymore, no. Other than mom. :) Growing up, I was Ber, Ambs, Amby, Bambi, Bam.
IF YOU COULD LEARN ONE NEW SKILL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Oh my gosh... I have ALWAYS wanted to play the drums. I think I would be FIRE. :)
DO YOU HAVE ANY BAD HABITS?
Oh, don't we all? I am a habitual nail biter and ice chewer. I would love to quit the nails thing, but the ice I don't care as much about... ha!
